Defense Suicide Prevention Office

Defense Suicide Prevention Office (DSPO) provides advocacy, program oversight, and policy for Department of Defense (DoD) suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts. 

DSPO sought to develop a campaign to convey the idea that putting time and space between suicide method and someone in emotional crisis can save lives.

Written created a logo, slogan and PSA that strategically communicates the life-saving importance of creating time and space between individuals in crisis and means of self-harm.

Our Approach

Video

Our team was given the opportunity to develop a Public Service Announcement (PSA) depicting a hopeful message that centered around the importance of safe firearm storage by Servicemembers and their families. We developed the script and storyboard, sourced filming and actor talents, and managed the logistics for on-set production. We worked closely with the client to deliver a 60-second and 30-second PSA that combined emotional authenticity with actionable guidance. Watch the PSA: Lethal Means Safety - In Our Nature.

Brand Identity

Written created a slogan and logo that visually reinforces the protective concept of separation and intervention. Both creatives were delivered in a transferable manner so that they can be placed on a brochure, magnet, or trigger lock. The final logo and slogan, Stop Lock & Live, was integrated into the PSA in an effort to enhance the impact of the educational training campaign directed at the safety of lethal means.

Results

The campaign has been implemented across DoD channels, equipping service members, families, and support personnel with a clear, consistent framework for understanding this vital suicide prevention strategy.
